Covid 19 Fern admitted to ICU

We have tested positive for Coid - this happened at the end of last week with M getting symptoms on the Wednesday, testing positive on Thursday, myself testing positive on Saturdau and Fern testing positive on Sunday.

Fern had a temperature and wasn't able to keep fluids down, but we didn't associate this with covid taking control of Fern.

Yesterday (13th December) M organised an appointment with a Dr, at the walk in centre, but they didn't want to see Fern and told them to go to A+E which they did.

What happened next is so terrifying and happened so fast. Fern had collapsed and was unconcious. There were 10 medical professionals all around them so fast. They put in 4 cannulas - one for arterial blood gases. Fern's heart rate was over 170 and sats were low.

They did a chest xray and then made the decision to incubate them so they can help Fern along. This  is so hard, but not being able to be there with them is hitting all of us really hard.

This is the FB post I made yesterday...

Important: As you know M tested positive for covid, I did a couple of days later and F a couple of days after that.
As Fern hasn't been able to keep water or anything down today Marc took Fern to Ashford Walk In Centre as per the instructions from 111 who had made the appointment for them. The walk in centre wouldn't see Fern and sent them to St Peters Hospital A+E.
I had a phone call a couple of hours ago to say that they have concerns over Fern's sats levels and so to stop it getting worse or risk organs not coping they have incubated them. This is horrible. Marcs been able to stay with Fern even though he is still testing positive and they've made a special area for them in ICU which is where Fern now is.
To those who I've spoken to who have asked what they can do, please just get vaccinated, think about your vaccination status and that of those you love. I'm too poorly to go and be with my baby, but please, please, please don't let this be in vain. Fern only had the one vaccine as they had such a fear of needles and each time they went they had anxiety attacks and so left. Yesterday Fern said to me they wished that they had been able to have all of them....
Get vaccinated, be with the ones you love and hug them extra tight right now. Please send any thoughts and prayers to my baby...
Please don't call as we're keeping the phone lines free, but text/messager/whatsapp are all good, besides I don't have much of a voice and lots of coughing... Think of my baby - Fern needs it right now.

Update

This afternoon M and I were able to speak to the consultant in charge of Fern's care. As predicted Fern isn't being the easiest of patients as they keep trying to wake up or sit up even though they are sedated. They are hoping that it things go OK tonight then they will try to take them off the ventilator (Ariel obviously), but she's still fighting every step of the way.  They've made it possible for M and I to go and see Fern tomorrow. We can take in things like their phone, tablet, blanket and plushie.  We're not out of the woods yet (terrible musical only saved by "Agony" - Fern's favourite song from the musical.. We were able to WhatsApp with Fern's dedicated nurse who doesn't leave Fern's room until someone takes over meaning that Fern is getting 1:1 dedicated nursing 24/7.  When I saw all the tubes and all the machines it made my blood run cold. My baby Ferny who is always so full of life and definitely one to push boundaries and stan

Fern ICU day 2

So, M is 7 days symptomatic, I'm 5 and Fern is 4.  Day 2 for Fern is in ICU.  Copied from a post on FB: Morning update: Fern is doing OK, they came round a bit last night, even though they were sedated - stubborn and difficult as usual. The Doctor is keeping them sedated and on the ventilator today to allow her body to rest. There are signs of pneumonia, but they're going to do a further chest x ray later today. Her heart rate has dropped to normal (70 as oppose to 170 when they went in and 130 that they were on when Marc came home. Her sats are 95% and oxygen is now only 25% whereas she started at 100%. Things are going in the right direction, she has partial lung collapse as is normal for someone on ventilator. The doctor is hoping that they can leave Fern on today, but hoping that they can bring her round tomorrow. Whilst they can't tell us we can't visit, we've been advised not to go in whilst we test positive. They've offered WhatsApp calls as they have ip
